By Wendy K. Burton - editor of the Official Searchers Website  and Roy Clough - leading the Searchers' forum

Spencer James has been the lead singer with the Searchers since the end of 1985, and during the rare periods of time off that their hectic schedule allows, he has made five albums which show his gift not only as a solo singer but also as a writer and a record producer. During this time he has set up his own top quality recording studio (SJO Productions in Northampton), producing other acts as well as his solo work and the Searchers' live albums.

He started around 1987 with the album Days Gone By. The CD (Label: Real Flippy, Catalogue No. FlipCD2) was available through SJ himself, which makes it really rare.

His second solo album was "Tides of Time" (1999), a collection of self and co-written songs, which excellently showcased his love for "new country" music. Label: SJO Records, Catalogue No. SPENCD 02

The Searchers' continuing hectic schedule has meant that, although Spencer has written a lot more of his own songs, he hasn't yet had time to perfect them for recording. He has, however, found time to record a fourth solo album "Breathe In, Breathe Out" (2004) which contains more songs by writers he admires, plus a classic "The First Cut is the Deepest" which he particularly likes.
